Philippine College of Pharmaceutical Medicine

The Philippine College of Pharmaceutical Medicine (PCPM) is an affiliate society of the Philippine Medical Association, composed of licensed physicians who are part of the pharmaceutical industry. Bound by a shared mission of leading Medical governance and driving high ethical standards in the practice of pharmaceutical medicine, these group of more than 170 doctors strive to continuously learn and work with all stakeholders, both in private and government sectors to uphold ethics and excellence in healthcare.

Core Activities

1. Professional Certification

Diploma Course in Pharmaceutical Medicine and Management

The Philippine College of Pharmaceutical Medicine in collaboration with the Ateneo de Manila School of Business–Center for Continuing Education is offering the Diploma Course in Pharmaceutical Medicine and Management (DPMM). This is in line with the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirement under DOH-AO No. 2014-0040 that all Medical Directors or the equivalent role title, thereof, of all drug establishments operating in the country should have a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine or passed the examinations given by the Specialty Board of Pharmaceutical Medicines.

The course covers 7 domains (modules) that is aligned with the curriculum of the International Federation of Association of Pharmaceutical Physicians (IFAPP) and runs for 20 session days or the equivalent of 160 hours. This is followed by a certifying examination administered by the PCPM Board that will form the basis of the registration approval of a Medical Director with the Philippine FDA.

The MIMS website has an excellent article on the pilot phase of the diploma course.

2. Continuing Education Program

PCPM Annual Convention

The annual convention of the organization tackles relevant issues, capability building topics, and recent regulations that are necessary in the practice of Pharmaceutical Medicine. Experts from the industry, academe, government and other healthcare stakeholders are invited as presenters and resource speakers.  Induction of new members, elections and annual reports are also done during the full day convention.

Quarterly Continuing Education Program

Aside from the annual convention, PCPM also organizes quarterly Continuing Education meetings for its members. One or two special topics of learning are chosen based on learning needs and priority issues in the Healthcare Industry and Pharmaceutical Medicine.

3. Mentoring Program

PCPM provides mentoring to new Medical Directors through its senior Board members and retired officers. Interested members apply and matching is facilitated by a special committee. The mentees bring special leadership and management topics and challenges to the table and possible options are explored together with the mentors.

4. Health Advocacy and Other Special Programs

As an affiliate society of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), the PCPM is supporting the health advocacy programs like DOH driven projects on disease awareness and prevention and other special projects of the PMA. For example, PCPM is a PMA certified CME credits provider for physicians through the PCPM’s Annual Convention and Continuing Education Program.
