Mission & Objectives

IFAPP’S Mission

The Mission of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Pharmaceutical Medicine (IFAPP) is to promote Pharmaceutical Medicine by enhancing the knowledge, expertise and skills of pharmaceutical physicians and other professionals involved in all scientific disciplines with regard to the discovery, development, research and use of medicines worldwide, thus leading to the availability and appropriate use of medicines for the benefit of patients and the society.

How does IFAPP accomplish its Mission?

  • Through elaboration and diffusion of regularly updated international training programs, covering in particular drug development, medical information (e.g. Collaboration IFAPP Academy/Kings College).
  • By organizing international forums with the participation of representatives of the national associations discussing common challenges and emerging "best practices".
  • By representing our members at the level of international organizations and ensuring our members’ perspectives are understood and supported by all public and private stakeholders, including but not limited to fostering the international recognition of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
  • By ensuring that IFAPP members are aware of fast evolving stakeholders’ new expectations (e.g. demand for more Real-World Evidence data) and discuss available methods to generate those data, analyzing current technical, regulatory and ethical challenges.
  • By reviewing emerging technologies’ benefits and limitations (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Megadata).
  • By ensuring our core ethical values inspire all our activities and recommendations.

Aims & Objectives 2019-2020

IFAPP’s activities are planned not only on an annual basis but spanning through mid- and long-term objectives to ensure a successful accomplishment of the tasks proposed to and agreed by the House of Delegates (HoD).

The tasks are discussed, and action is made by each of six Working Groups:

1) Ethics and Professionalism

2) External Affairs

3) Competencies and Education

4) Communication

5) Certification

6) Council of Past Presidents.

As for the period of 2019/2020, we will work towards the strategic goals as follows:

  • Re-establish the IFAPP presence in Europe
  • Foster continuing awareness of competence as the foundation for professionalism
  • Develop terms for strategic collaborations with key stakeholders
  • Create awareness on the new IFAPP Ethics Framework
  • Develop strategic collaboration with regulatory agencies
  • Maintain a solid communication network with key stakeholders
  • Ensure IFAPP maintains a self-sustaining financial operation
  • Ensure the continuing success of the International Conference of Pharmaceutical Medicine
  • Establish Certification as the foundation for the profession of Pharmaceutical Medicine
  • Ensure the continuity and standards for IFAPP as a professional organization

Each Working Group consists of dedicated individual IFAPP members from the National Member Associations with close communication to the Board of Officers and the House of Delegates. We continue to encourage active participation from our National Member Associations and Individual Affiliates so that we can provide expected deliverables and contribute to promote Pharmaceutical Medicine throughout the world.
